How to Volunteer

  • Complete the application on our secure volunteer management system.
  • Your application will be reviewed, and you will be contacted within 10 days.
  • Your information will be retained for recruitment notices and newsletters.

Volunteer Position: Aviation Hangar Host

Role: Greet visitors and be available for general questions (no aviation knowledge is required).

Skills Required: Friendly and polite; an interest in aviation. 

Time Commitment: Ideally, once a week (same day each week preferred) 10 am – 5 pm (Flexible/short shifts available). 

There is also the opportunity to be put on the Occasional Hangar Host Volunteer Roster. Dates will vary.

Volunteer Position: Resource Centre Assistant

Role: The Resource Centre Assistant will work at the Resource Centre front desk, greeting and assisting visitors with research questions. They will also help take inventory of the document collection.

Duties: 

  • Opening and closing the Resource Centre
  • Greeting visitors and assisting them in finding information
  • Recording visitor numbers
  • Re-shelving books and dusting stacks on occasion
  • Taking inventory of the document collection
  • Updating the database, updating records, locations, etc.
  • Scanning materials when needed

Skills Required: Must be comfortable working with the public and using a computer. Training is provided.

Time Commitment: Minimum once a week (same day each week preferred), flexible hours between 10 am and 4 pm.

Volunteer Position: Archival Clerk

Role: The Archival Clerk scans items from the document collection, creating a digital file for each piece. These digital files make our collection more accessible and will protect the originals from damage and deterioration.

Duties: 

  • Scanning documents
  • Naming digital files according to museum standards
  • Filing documents electronically

Skills Required: Comfortable using a computer; training provided.

Time Commitment: Minimum once a week (same day each week preferred), flexible hours between 10 am and 4 pm.
